Renewable diesel comes to UAlbany's vehicle fleet
ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The University at Albany is the first SUNY school to receive a renewable diesel fuel delivery. Sprague Energy’s Rensselaer Terminal is supplying the school.
UAlbany's goal is to reduce its carbon footprint as it works toward a completely electric vehicle fleet. The plan is to convert all the diesel-powered vehicles to renewable fuel. That includes 12 buses, three garbage trucks, about 50 heavy-duty utility vehicles and about 20 diesel-powered mowers.
Officials said the change is expected to reduce carbon emissions by 60 percent and switching to renewable diesel should be cost neutral.
UAlbany said the switch to renewable diesel fuel is only temporary. The ultimate goal is for each vehicle to be electric.
