Motorcycles fill the streets of Lake George for Americade 2025
LAKE GEORGE, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Wednesday was the first full day of Americade in Lake George, the annual motorcycle festival that draws tens of thousands of riders to the area every year. As motorcycle enthusiasts began to fill the North Country, some came from as far as North Carolina, checking out Americade for the first time. “It was a great inaugural trip to come out and try it out. My buddy said that it was going on while I was going to be here for business,” said Rob Owens.
While others have been coming since the beginning of the event in 1983. Back then it was known as Aspencade East. “I come up and ride a couple of the demo bikes just to see what's new and exciting,” said Chirs Ganong.
But it’s not all about the great weather and fun, motorcycle safety is of real concern. Kelsey Bevins relived the day when he came upon the accident of his19-year-old his brother-in-law who was killed while riding his motorcycle last year. “I will never forget the moment that my wife realized it was him. I'll never forget the sound she made. The way her body just gave out, that kind of grief and that kind of pain it never leaves. He wasn't reckless. He wore his gear. He respected the road, and he rode smart, still it wasn't enough,” said Bevins.
The Deputy Commissioner for Traffic Safety and Investigations, Mary Tanner-Richter said it is now that time of the year when more motorcycles are on the roadways and drivers need to be more aware by looking twice and taking extra precautions, “Unfortunately the number of fatal crashes has gone through the roof.”
New York State Police (NYSP) want to remind all drivers and riders to safely share the roadways and “We want to encourage motorcycle riders to ride in a way that ensures they are clearly visible to others,” said Sgt. Joseph Constantino with the NYSP Traffic Division.
And if you haven't made it up to Lake George yet for this year’s Americade, don't worry there will be events happening until Saturday evening.
