Averill Park man drowns in Burden Lake
SAND LAKE, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- An Averill Park man has died after drowning in Burden Lake, per the New York State Police. Troopers said it happened around 1:50 p.m. on Monday.
Law enforcement reported responding to the area for reports of a possible drowning. Upon investigation, troopers said James Slater, 31, was found struggling to stay afloat by bystanders before becoming unconscious.
The bystanders removed Slater from the water and attempted life-saving measures until emergency services arrived, but he was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene, according to troopers. State Police are actively investigating this incident.
