José Azócar Elects Free Agency
Earlier this week, the Mets designated José Azócar and Génesis Cabrera for assignment when they brought up Jared Young and Brandon Waddell from Triple-A. Both Azócar and Cabrera cleared waivers and were outrighted to Triple-A Syracuse. However, both decided on free agency, with Cabrera already signing a deal with the Cubs. Azócar officially elected for free agency on Wednesday.
Azócar, 29, had a .628 OPS in 12 games for the Mets this season while playing all three outfield spots.
