Game Fifty-Seven: Cincinnati Reds at Kansas City Royals
Don’t get swept.
The Kansas City Blues Royals will take on the Cincinnati Reds tonight, looking to avoid the sweep after dropping the first two games of this three-game set at Kauffman Stadium.
Noah Cameron will start for Kansas City. Cameron has been stellar in his first three starts in the majors, allowing just two total runs while pitching into the seventh inning in all three. Batters have had a tough time squaring him up, and he even managed to get some whiffs in his last outing with eight strikeouts. While his .102 BABIP and 100% strand rate are not at all sustainable, Cameron’s 2.89 xERA indicates that his hot start isn’t entirely flukey.
The Reds will counter with Hunter Greene. Greene got off to a flying start when it seemed like he’d fixed his issues with walks and home runs that have plagued him throughout his young big league career. The long balls have started to return, with seven allowed in his last five starts, but he’s remained stingy with the walks. He’s essentially a two-pitch guy, with his four-seamer and slider accounting for just over 90% of his offerings this year. He racks up plenty of whiffs, but when batters make contact, it tends to be loud. Greene has never faced Kansas City.
The Royals will try a novel outfield alignment with Dairon Blanco in right, Drew Waters playing center, and Michael Massey manning left. Nick Loftin will get his first start at third base of the season, while Jonathan India will play at second and Maikel Garcia will DH.
