Red Sox Vs. Brewers Lineups: Boston Aims To Turn Luck Around Amid Slump
The Boston Red Sox were not satisfied with the way they opened up their three-game series with the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday afternoon.
“I don’t care about promise. We lost,” outfielder Rob Refsnyder said following Boston’s 3-2 loss, per NESN. “It’s frustrating. I’m tired of losing. Tired of losing close games. We just need to figure it out and win some games. Bottom line.”
Red Sox starter Garrett Crochet provided a quality start, going 6 2/3 innings while allowing two earned runs, striking out 11 batters, which tied a season-high mark. Still, that wasn’t enough. Boston provided Crochet with zero insurance, failed to score until the eighth inning and finished the contest 2-for-9 with runners in scoring position. Jarren Duran was the only member of the lineup to record multiple hits.
It’s a continuation of an ongoing slump that’s made the Red Sox losers of three straight and dragged the team from second in the American League East last Friday to fourth entering Tuesday night’s game in Milwaukee. Boston is officially closer to the last-place Baltimore Orioles (19-34) than the first-place New York Yankees (33-20).
With starting third baseman Alex Bregman sidelined, it’s been a struggle plagued by a lack of momentum for the Red Sox. Boston has gone 2-for-19 with runners in scoring position, hitting .222 with a minus-six run differential, striking out 22 times ever since Bregman suffered his right quad injury against the Orioles.
Boston right-hander Richard Fitts will take the mound, returning for the first time since April 12 — Fitts suffered a right pectoral strain. First pitch from American Family Field is scheduled for 7:40 p.m. ET, and you can catch the game, plus a full hour of pregame coverage, live on NESN.
