Trolls said I was going to die when I hit 13st because I ‘ate all the pies’ – but I shed 5st by hard work NOT Ozempic

WAKING up and scrolling through social media, former Celebrity Big Brother winner Chantelle Houghton was once again met with cruel comments about her weight gain.

At 41, Chantelle had reached 13 stone following her split from ex-fiancé Michael Strutt, and the trolling was relentless, with people accusing her of “eating all the pies” and even claiming she was “going to die.”

For Chantelle, the negativity became a turning point.

Rather than letting the comments define her, she took matters into her own hands, embarking on a weight-loss journey that saw her shed an incredible five stone – all without ever setting foot in a gym.

She committed herself to a strict diet, avoiding processed foods and focusing on healthy eating.

But while Chantelle is proud of her achievements, she’s had to deal with accusations that she relied on Ozempic – the controversial weight-loss drug that’s become a hot topic in recent years.

“There was an article online not long ago, and the comments section was full of people saying, ‘Ozempic, Ozempic,’” Chantelle revealed.

“But I’ve never taken it. If I had, I’d happily admit it – I’m an open book.

“But I worked hard to lose that weight through blood, sweat, and tears, and it really p**sed me off that people dismissed my effort.

“I’ve had to learn to have thick skin and do what’s best for me, but the comments did hurt.”

She continued: “I personally wouldn’t take it – things like that scare me – but I can understand why some people do.

“If you’re going to use it, make sure it’s from a legitimate source and not something dodgy.

“It’s your body, and you have to do what feels right for you.”

Nearly 20 years after Chantelle was crowned the winner of Celebrity Big Brother, she reflects on how the experience shaped her life.

“CBB was where my life began,” she said.

“Before that, I didn’t really know where my life was going to go.

Whirlwind romance

“The day before I went into the house, I was just a girl from my hometown.”

Chantelle had a whirlwind romance with fellow housemate Preston, who was The Ordinary Boys’ frontman, who she went on to marry just four months after the show at the age of 22.

It was reported that the pair earned £300,000 each with an exclusive magazine deal in August 2006, and after their honeymoon, they both moved into Prestons’ flat in Brighton, East Sussex.

But their high profile romance lasted just 10 months as the pair eventually divorced on a mutual agreement.

Even though it didn’t work out. I’m so glad we got married

Chantelle Houghton, 41

“I went from leaving my mum’s house at 6am to going off to Big Brother, and then never really coming back.

“When I came out after winning the show, suddenly I was on the front pages of newspapers and magazines getting offered all of these deals.

“Me and Preston were young, and I thought there was just a lot of outside pressure. Neither of us cheated, it just came to an end.

“Even though it didn’t work out. I’m so glad we got married. I’m glad for everything that we experienced together, we are still really good friends and the friendship is intense – we talk often.”

King Charles

Chantelle’s fame even brought her to meet the King – then Prince Charles – at Clarence House in May 2006.

“It was for the Prince’s Trust and I got invited. Obviously you weren’t allowed to bring a plus one, as it was an exclusive thing, but I was so nervous.

“It had been a matter of weeks after coming out of Big Brother.

“It was crazy, one minute I was just this girl from this little town, and then the next I’m with other celebrities in this room at the Queen Mother’s house about to meet the Prince.

One day the phone stopped calling and that was it

Chantelle Houghton, 41

“I remember Ant and Dec were there and they were so nice and comforting to me, I’ll never forget that.

“I loved Charles, there’s just something about him.”

She continues: “The fame was such a whirlwind, but I’ve always been grounded.

“I never believed the hype because I knew it wasn’t sustainable.

“I wasn’t a Hollywood actress or someone with an amazing talent – I was just a normal girl so I knew the money wasn’t going to last.

“One day the phone stopped calling and that was it, but I’m genuinely grateful for every opportunity that’s come my way, and I still am to this day.”

While Chantelle has fond memories of her time on Big Brother, she wouldn’t want her daughter Dolly, who is nearly 13, going on it now.

“Reality TV was so different back then – there was no social media,” she said.

I want her to find her own way, but if I had control over it, I’d steer her away from that world

Chantelle Houghton, 41

“If you wanted to know what people thought of you, you’d have to go on forums like Digital Spy. It was all more controlled.

“Now, with social media, it’s so cutthroat.

“I find it toxic – it’s great for promoting a business, but when it comes to things like pranks humiliating strangers, I think it’s appalling.

“I wouldn’t want my daughter to go into reality TV. Kids are so impressionable, and the pressure is just too much.

“I want her to find her own way, but if I had control over it, I’d steer her away from that world.”

Chantelle is cautious about the impact of social media on young people.

Social media

“My daughter doesn’t have social media,” she said. “She’s not old enough, and I hope she doesn’t want it either.

“You can’t control what they see, and it’s just so toxic. I think it’s lazy parenting when kids are handed social media to keep them quiet.

“Kids shouldn’t have social media until they’re old enough, and even then, I don’t think 13 or 14 is old enough.”

Alongside parenting, Chantelle is now focusing on launching her own wellness and beauty brand.

“It’s something I’ve wanted to do since 2017, and now it’s all finally coming together,” she said.

“It’s nice to be proud of something that’s completely my own, rather than promoting someone else’s product.

“It’s been a long time coming, but I’m excited to finally make it happen.”

Looking back on her journey, Chantelle remains unapologetically herself.

“You’re never going to please everyone, and that’s okay,” she said. “I didn’t lose weight for anyone else – it was for me.

“I’ve learned to do what makes me happy, and that’s what matters most.

“Fame isn’t everything, and I’m just grateful for the life I’ve built and the opportunities I’ve had along the way.

“I’m currently single and happy. I’m really happy with my life and how it is.

“My daughter is the most important thing to me, and I’m also not looking for anyone either.

“I think you find love when it’s meant to find you.”

Who has won Celebrity Big Brother?

THE first Celebrity Big Brother aired in March 2001 on Channel 4.

Roll on 23 years and a switch to Channel 5 in 2011, CBB is now into its 23rd season and is being hosted for the first time by ITV.

Here’s who has won the coveted title so far:

Season 1 (2001): Comedian Jack Dee beat actress Claire Sweeney despite walking out of the house and evading security for about an hour. The series was also more memorable for Vanessa Feltz telling Big Brother to “f*** off” after chalking “incarcerated”, “ambushed” and “restricted” on the table.

Season 2 (2002): Take That favourite Mark Owen triumphed over TV host Les Dennis. The latter won over the sympathy of the audience after his marriage breakdown with his wife Amanda Holden.

Season 3 (2005): Maraca shaking Bez walked out the winner ahead of Blazin’ Squad‘s Kenzie. The Happy Mondays star scooped the £50,000 and went on a 10-hour bender, blowing the cash.

Season 4 (2006): This was the season when Big Brother mixed things up – by sending in a non-celebrity from the fictional band Kandy Floss. However, Chantelle Houghton won over viewers and housemates alike and was crowned the winner. During her time in the house she found love with Ordinary Boys singer Preston. There was also added drama when George Galloway pretended to be Rula Lenska‘s pet cat

Season 5 (2007): Actress Shilpa Shetty won after being caught up in a racism bullying row with former BB contestant Jade Goody, model Danielle Lloyd, and S Club‘s Jo O’Meara

Season 6 (2009): Ulrika Jonsson beat Terry Christian, but controversy came in the form of rapper Coolio who was slammed by viewers as misogynistic, however, he finished in third spot.

Season 7 (2010): Alex Reid beat Dane Bowers and Vinnie Jones with a huge 65% of the vote. Alex married Katie Price one month later.

Season 8 (2011): In the first series to air on Channel 5, Big Fat Gypsy Wedding star Paddy Doherty was the unexpected winner, beating singer Kerry Katona.

Season 9 (2012): Loose Women star Denise Welch triumphed over X Factor contestant Frankie Cocozza, after stripping off while drunk and jumping into the hot tub topless.

Season 10 (2012): Comedian Julian Clary got the nod in the vote over Coleen Nolan.

Season 11 (2013): The X Factor’s Rylan Clark beat couple Heidi Montag
Spencer Pratt, who was competing as “one entity” and known as Speidi.

Season 12 (2013): Geordie Shore star Charlotte Crosby beat 5ive singer Abz Love

Season 13 (2014): Jim Davidson won after a blazing row with Linda Nolan. N-dubz Dappy took the second spot.

Season 14 (2014): Gary Busey – who chose to roam around the CBB house naked – beatboxer Audley Harrison.

Season 15 (2015): Katie Price won the battle of the Katies as she saw off controversial Katie Hopkins in the final. The biggest talking point was American blogger Perez Hilton‘s raging row with Calum Best, but the series also saw two early ejections of Jeremy Jackson and Ken Morley.

Season 16 (2015): Apprentice star James Hill beat model Austin Armacost. Tila Tequila was evicted on just the second day after she was found to have posted support for Adolf Hitler on social media.

Season 17 (2016): Geordie Shore’s Scotty T won after sharing a kiss with fellow housemate Tiffany Pollard. Stephanie Davis was runner-up.

Season 18 (2016): Stephen Bear won the show despite a huge row with radio star James Whale. Ricky Norwood placed second but this season saw Christopher Biggins ejected from the house after making an anti-Semitic joke.

Season 19 (2017): Coleen Nolan entered the CBB house for a second time – and this time came out the winner beating Jedward. During her second stint, she had a massive showdown with horse star John McCririck.

Season 20 (2017): It was the battle of the reality show singers in the final, with  Popstars: The Rivals winner and Girls Aloud star Sarah Harding beating The X Factor’s Amelia Lily.

Season 21 (2018): Courtney Act, otherwise known as Shane Jenek, won with politician Ann Widdecombe as runner-up.

Season 22 (2018): Winning Dancing On Ice in 2024, was not Ryan Thomas‘s first reality show title. He won the CBB title in 2018, after a shocking “run-in” with Emmerdale actress Roxanne Pallet, who falsely accused him of punching her. Actress Kirstie Alley came second.
