Police officer stabbed while arresting suspect on Long Island: police
AMITY HARBOR, N.Y. (PIX11) – A police officer was stabbed while he was trying to take a suspect into custody early Tuesday morning, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.
Police said several officers were responding to a 911 call about two men looking into parked cars on Gibbs Road in Amity Harbor around 12:30 a.m.
Officers took one man into custody while the other fled on foot, according to authorities. Police said the second suspect was later found nearby, and when officers tried to place him in handcuffs, he allegedly swung a knife.
The knife struck one of the officers in the leg and chin, according to authorities. Police said the officers were able to disarm the man and arrest him around 1:05 a.m.
The officer who was stabbed was taken to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, according to authorities.
Charges are pending against the two men, police said.
