Colman Domingo Pays Homage to André Leon Talley in Dapper VLogo Signature Valentino Loafers at Met Gala 2025 Red Carpet
Colman Domingo graced the red carpet in royal fashions at the 2025 Met Gala held tonight in New York. Domingo is one of the four hallowed co-chairs for the gala this evening.
The “Sing Sing” star made a dapper entrance in a pair of black loafers hailing from Valentino. Currently retailing for $ 1,090, the chosen VLogo Signature style featured plush leather uppers in black that transitioned into almond-shaped toes and decorative fringe. Atop the fringe sat gold chain detailing made of antique-looking brass adorned with Valentino’s V logo, making the silhouette instantly recognizable.
Branded insoles gave way to leather soles and short 0.8-inch block heels that offered Domingo a subtle lift. The timeless silhouette was likely chosen to pay homage to Black “Dandy” style, an aesthetic that highlights impeccable tailoring and a blend of traditional and flamboyant elements. Domingo was highly vocal about the styling choice prior to his appearance at the gala.
The “Rustin” star paired his preppy footwear with gray wool trousers in a tailored style and a bright blue cape, also from Valentino. The cape was pleated and featured an ornate gold neckline trimmed with white fur and dappled with sparkles and beading.
The outfit choice was likely made to pay homage to the legendary André Leon Talley. Talley was the first African-American creative director for Vogue. Talley often wore dramatic capes similar to Domingo’s.
