Trio arrested in connection to smuggling attempt into St. Martin Parish Jail
ST. MARTIN PARISH, La. (KLFY) -- Three arrests have been made by officials with St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office in connection with an investigation regarding an attempt to smuggle contraband into the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center.
According to authorities the investigation began when an inmate at the correctional center, 28-year-old Antonio Potier was transported to a local hospital for treatment of an illness.
While at the hospital, officials said 20-year-old Colasha Joseph, of Lafayette, allegedly attempted to drop off a package containing illegal drugs in a restroom. Officials conducted a search of the area and recovered the contraband
As the investigation continued, officials found a third suspect to be another inmate, 32-year-old Javien Demouchet.
As a result, all three individuals were arrested and charged with principal to taking contraband to a state-owned hospital, attempted contraband in a penal institution and criminal conspiracy.
There has been no information released regarding the bond for these individuals. The investigation remains ongoing.
