May’s GoBike ride, 04 May 2025
This month’s ride took us north through the city, past the yet-to-be-completed Pitt Street
cycle lane and along the Garscube Road cycle lane to the canal. Then it was over the Stockingfield Bridge and along to Kirkintilloch. Our journey to Palacerigg is shown above.
At Palacerigg we were fortunate enough to see this wonderful mural done by Alasdair Gray, but not so fortunate in the cafe; it is now run by the Palacerigg Community Trust and currently does not offer any hot food or sandwiches. Hot drinks, crisps and chocolate biscuits etc are the order of the day.
Our return journey took us along gravel paths out of the Country Park – although just as we were leaving some serious work to underground pipes caused us to use what was euphemistically referred to as a “footpath diversion”.
Some road cycling led us nearer to Cumbernauld where we went along many of the paths and trails in the town and over busy dual carriageways on foot and cycle bridges before arriving back at Kirkintilloch, where we rejoined the canal towpath. The ride, 41 miles, officially ended, with thanks to Andy, at the Stockingfield Bridge.
