Are You a Type C Mom? All About the Personality Type That’s Taking Over TikTok
What kind of a mom are you? Are you the stringent, stick-to-the-routine, everything-in-its-place mom? Or the messy, never-gets-the-kids-to-school-on-time mom? I feel like I’m one or the other depending on the day! I like to get the kids to bed at the same general time every night, but I’m not going to stress if an evening activity comes up that throws them off. My home is what I like to call “organized chaos.” I know where everything is, but it’s not always perfectly clean or even put away. I can hit deadlines at work and bring teacher appreciation gifts on the right day, but we might not always be on time for morning drop-off. I feel like I’m in-between Type A and Type B — and I’m not the only mom who doesn’t seem to fit strictly in one of these personality types.
Enter: The Type C mom. This personality type is taking over TikTok because so many moms can relate to being a different, third option.
One video on TikTok, which has 4.5 million views, shares the point of view of “a Type C Mom.” Some of her thoughts include, “I can’t find my debit card anywhere, but they should take Apple Pay, right?”; “I’m so overstimulated, if I hear someone say ‘Mom’ one more time, I’m going to lose it”; and “You can watch Daniel Tiger or take a nap, those are the options right now.” This is sooo me! And other people saw themselves in this video as well.
“I knew I wasn’t type A and I knew I wasn’t type B. That’s because I am this ???? I’m type C!” one person commented. Someone else wrote, “I’m definitely type c, pick and choose the battles most everything wins tho because I’m too tired to fight ????”
“IVE NEVER FELT MORE SEEN IN MY WHOLE LIFE,” another person commented.
A different mom shared some of her Type C Mom things in a video, like washing a fork in the sink for a kid who needs it or searching through the dryer for a piece of clothing, but also already planning her 3-month-old’s first birthday party and having a well-stocked first aid kit. It’s the perfect mix of organization and chaos that’s so darn relatable.
“Being a type C mom is the worst because in your soul you’re type A but life never lets you GET THERE ????????,” one person commented.
Another asked, “so are we just type A but with ADHD? because I’m so organized about a lot of things, but….I forget or don’t have the energy lol”
One mom summed up Type C moms in her video. “I’ll schedule an appointment, but not write it down, and completely forget about it,” she said. “I’ll try my best to set a bedtime routine for my kids, but when it’s actually time to lay the hammer down when they’re wrestling on the floor and strangling each other, I look over at them, and I’m just like, ‘f— it, go to bed whenever you want.’ I try to pack their lunch boxes with organic snacks, but if they wanna have an apple juice at 7 o’clock in the morning on the weekend, fine.” (Hey, it’s called balance!)
“I’m aggressively competent, but also emotionally exhausted,” she added. “Type C moms are just out here trying to hold it together with a hair tie, three alarms set in their phones, and some trauma response.”
Cheers to the moms who have special areas of our houses to take pictures without showing a messy background, who sniff their kids’ shorts to see if they are clean enough to re-wear, and who budget the grocery order so we can buy Starbucks every day. You are my people, and I love that TikTok is normalizing moms doing the best we can!
