Inflation refund checks put $150-$400 back into New Yorkers' pockets
NEW YORK (PIX11) – Some New Yorkers are expected to get up to $400 from inflation refund checks that were agreed upon in the state budget, according to Gov. Kathy Hochul.
Hochul announced that checks were coming last week as part of an agreement on the budget. Around 8.2 million people, including 3.5 million in New York City alone, qualify for the refund as long as they filed taxes for the most recent tax year.
Several factors determine how much money people will get from the refund check, including income and marital status.
Here's the breakdown of how much New York residents are expected to receive:
- Individuals making up to $75,000: $200
- Individuals making between $75,000 and up to $150,000: $150
- Couples making making up to $150,000: $400
- Couples making between $150,000 and up to $300,000: $300
The budget hasn't yet been finalized, so there is no set timeline on when to expect the checks, officials said. Other agreements made in the budget include an increase in the child tax credit, a cellphone ban in schools and more.
