05/05/2025: A Rather Damp Forecast
The Latest Storm Tracker Forecast from Meteorologist Kevin Appleby:
A closed off area of upper level low pressure continues to very, very slowly drift to the east, keeping us unsettled with periods of rain for the next several days. While this low will swing to our east towards the end of the work week, guidance is suggesting yet another low may slowly meander over us to round out the work week.
After some dry time this morning in most spots, rain redevelops this afternoon into the evening, where it once again may be locally heavy.
Temperatures struggle to climb much, perhaps to around 60 before the day is done.
Scattered showers persist overnight, becoming less widespread by daybreak Tuesday. Temperatures once again don't move a lot, with lows mainly in the low 50s.
Showers and storms are expected at times on Tuesday. Like today, I don't expect it to rain all day long, but there is also the potential for heavy rain with the batches of showers that move through Tuesday.
The heavy rain may be accompanied by some thunder as well. With a more southerly influence to our winds this time around, along with possible sunny breaks, temperatures should climb a bit more substantially than today and yesterday.
Looking ahead to Wednesday, the morning will feature a good chunk of dry time along with some sun. However, with a very cold pocket of air above our heads, sunshine will allow the atmosphere to become unstable, increasing the likelihood of showers and thunderstorms for the afternoon hours.
Temperatures surge to near 70 before taking a step back on Thursday, a day that may actually be mostly dry. It looks like the driest day of the next six, to put it in perspective!
Our current upper level setup continues to transport abundant moisture out way for the next three days, which I think are the dreariest of this forecast. However, even after our current upper level low departs the region, the guidance from early this morning suggests a higher likelihood of *yet another* upper low getting cut off from the main flow for the end of this week.
The end of the work week into the weekend also featuring unsettled, showery weather is certainly not set in stone as of writing this, but the addition of rain to the forecast for Friday and Saturday is because guidance is certainly leaning a bit more this way compared to how it was looking yesterday morning. Our team will keep our eyes peeled on all the newest data available to us as it continues to come into the Weather Center. We've already seen a general 1"-2" of rain across the region, the the potential is there for much more, depending on where thunderstorms set up. Localized flooding concerns are growing, but at this time, we do not anticipate flooding to be a widespread concern.
