“Let’s make some noise for the final push!”
Ady Pennock spoke to Gareth Morgan after a hard-fought Whitehawk win
Ady Pennock hailed the togetherness of the club as his team chalked off another win on Saturday to stay top of the league.
A ‘horrible pitch’ meant the team was forced to dig deep to clinch all three points at Whitehawk.
But with a large Dartford following at the Enclosed Ground acting as the 12th man once again – and supporters and club ensuring the team travelled up together – Ady couldn’t have been happier.
He said: “The fans were amazing, as they have been all season. They were behind the team from the start to the end and they didn’t stop singing. And with a lot of extra injury time added on from somewhere, they had to keep it going even longer than normal!
“But we do appreciate it. As I’ve said before, they are our 12th man.
“The supporters and the club also put money in to ensure the team travelled to the match together by coach, and with the traffic, it meant we all arrived together instead of in dribs and drabs. You don’t know how much these little things help our focus and preparation. So, I want to say ‘thank-you’ to everyone.
“There’s a togetherness at the club. From the Chairman and Directors, to supporters and the whole squad, we are in this together and you can really feel it.”
The Darts found it difficult to get going in the first half – with pitch conditions making it hard to play football.
Ady continued: “It was a horrible pitch, which made it almost impossible to get the ball down and play.
“They have a great home record there and you can see why. If the game was in the winter, I think it would have been called off, the pitch was that uneven and rock hard.”
Despite the pitch, the team came out firing in the second half, with Ady’s use of substitutes once again paying off, as Olly Box scored the deserved winner.
Ady continued: “It was a game we had to roll up our sleeves and battle for everything. Some games you can’t play pretty, but I thought our work-rate was brilliant and we still created a lot of chances.
“We upped the intensity in the second half and got the deserved winner. I’ve said it plenty of times, it’s a squad game and I’m delighted that the lads that came on did so well again.”
With three matches left, Dartford sit top of the league, with Billericay and Horsham breathing down their necks and Dover next up, who sit in fourth.
With everything still to play for, Ady issued a final rallying cry to supporters.
He added: “They have been our 12th man all season, now we need their extra support for these final games. Bring your friends and family. Make as much noise as you can. Shout for every decision. Cheering on the team from start to finish can give us the extra lift we need to get us over the final hurdle. Not only can this help carry us over the line, but you sometimes don’t realise how much it can affect the opposition.
“We have three finals and need everyone together for this last push – and then we will see where we end up.”
