Tottenham fans left sceptical over former Arsenal chief joining Daniel Levy
Tottenham Hotspur fans have reacted to the club’s latest off-field appointment of a new CEO, and most of them aren’t exactly rolling out the red carpet for Vinai Venkatesham.
A few days ago, Tottenham Hotspur confirmed the appointment of a new CEO. Vinai Venkatesham is set to join the club’s board at the end of the current season, taking up the role of Chief Executive Officer.
The 43-year-old previously held the same position at Arsenal from 2010 to 2024, before stepping away from the club last year.
In addition to his work at the Emirates, he’s also served on the board and executive committee of the European Club Association (ECA), and is currently a non-executive director at the British Olympic Association.
Tottenham fans react to Vinai Venkatesham appointment
According to reports, Venkatesham will oversee all operational matters on and off the pitch at Tottenham Hotspur.
It’s also understood that the former Arsenal director turned down several other offers before accepting the job at Spurs, with his longstanding relationship with Daniel Levy playing a big part in his decision.
But it’s fair to say the fan reaction has been anything but warm, with many supporters voicing their scepticism online in no uncertain terms.
One Spurs fan didn’t hold back: “Out of all the CEOs out there, you go get a Gooner. You’ve no idea about us fans and the hatred we have for Woolwich.”
Another posted: “Still taking Arsenal’s leftovers,” while an Arsenal supporter chimed in mockingly: “Taking our scraps loool.”
One Spurs fan, clearly frustrated with the club’s hierarchy, wrote: “One day we are going to see a post like this announcing a new Chairman.”
Others were quick to question the practicality of the move. “Only helpful if Levy steps back from running most of the operations. But he seems to be a control freak. And he sets the budget anyway.”
And another simply put it: “A failure at Arsenal… Spurs really don’t want to grow.” An Arsenal fan twisted the knife further, adding: “Hiring the failed CEO at us, shambles of a club.”
Venkatesham responds as Spurs fans stay doubtful
Despite the lukewarm reception from supporters, Venkatesham addressed the appointment in the club’s official statement, expressing his enthusiasm for the role.
He said: “I’m excited to be joining Tottenham Hotspur this summer. After taking some time to recharge and evaluate my options, I believe this is an exceptional opportunity to work with Daniel, the Spurs board and all of the staff, to take the club forward.”
