Luca Williams-Barnett stole the show in the Under-17 Premier League Cup final on Friday, netting a sensational hattrick as Tottenham brushed aside Charlton Athletic at Stevenage.
Tottenham Hotspur emerged 5-2 winners on the night, courtesy of a Williams-Barnett hattrick and a goal each by substitutes Harry Byrne and Reiss Elliott-Parris.
Charlton were very much in the contest until the latter stages of the game, thanks to a brace by former Tottenham academy player Manu Wales.
However, in the end, Stuart Lewis’s youngsters managed to have a strong finish to the game, lifting the Under-17 Premier League Cup for the second time in three seasons.
Luca Williams-Barnett hailed for a sensation hattrick
Williams-Barnett bagged two first-half goals before stylishly rounding Charlton Athletic goalkeeper Finley Woodham to complete his treble just before the hour mark.
The 16-year-old attacking midfielder has received major plaudits for his performance, with Alasdair Gold particularly impressed with the teenager’s hattrick goal.
This performance once again ensures that the spotlight remains very much on Williams-Barnett, who has scored 17 goals and provided six assists in 14 Premier League 2 outings so far this campaign.
Is Williams-Barnett banging the first-team door down?
Ange Postecoglou has handed several Spurs teenagers their senior debuts this season, but Willaims-Barnett is not one of those, with the versatile attacker still waiting for his senior bow.
However, if he continues playing as well as he is now, one will think that the first-team coaches at Tottenham cannot ignore him for too long.
