See it: Flames from FedEx flight after bird strike near Newark Airport
NEWARK, New Jersey (PIX11) -- A FedEx flight was forced to make an emergency landing at Newark Liberty International Airport after a bird strike on Saturday morning, according to the FAA.
FedEx Flight 3609 took off from Newark and was bound for Indianapolis when it struck a bird during take-off, representatives for the FAA and FedEx said.
The bird disabled one of the plane's engines, forcing the flight crew to return to Newark around 8 a.m., FAA officials say. The plane sat disabled on the airport runway.
CitizenApp video from a driver shows flames coming from the plane on its way back to the airport.
It was not immediately clear whether there were any injuries as a result of the bird strike and emergency landing.
