I live with married mates who are SLOBS and cover our place in junk and cigarette ends – it’s ruined our friendship
A DESPERATE tenant who moved in with close friends has issued a warning to others – telling them never to move in with mates.
They took to social media to describe how their living situation quickly became a nightmare when their friends’ slovenly habits turned the household into chaos.
The friendship, which had lasted for over a decade, collapsed since moving in together.
Posting to Reddit under the username @de4thcutie, the tenant shared their disturbing experience.
They explained they moved in with a married couple, however, it didn’t take long for their friends’ “messy” and “lazy” tendencies to become clear.
The poster said this ended up creating “a lot of tension” between the household, which lead to the end of their friendship.
And the tenant even believes the couple is on the verge of separating, as one of them hasn’t been living at the shared accommodation “for ages.”
Despite complaining about the mess “more than once,” the poster says his protests have fallen on deaf ears, and that his old friends “just don’t care.”
In the post, they included shocking pictures of the filthy living conditions they were forced to endured.
One image showed a coffee table completely covered in wrappers, empty cans and plastic bottles.
Nearby, used plates, mugs, and bowls were abandoned, crusted with grime.
The poster explained the remaining male housemate had a “bad habit” of hoarding dishes, and claims “95% of the time” they couldn’t find bowls or silverware when they needed them.
In another photo, a desk space can barely be seen underneath a mountain of junk.
Empty cans, ready-meal packaging and instant noodle pots lay strewn across the surface.
But perhaps most shocking of all was a picture of the garden, which contained a jaw-dropping amount of cigarette butts.
Hundreds of discarded cigarette ends spilled over the edges of an ashtray, mounting up in a gigantic heap.
The poster said the stash had built up in just one month, and the filthy housemate “just dismissed it.”
In a stark warning to others, the tenant wrote: “Thankfully, our lease ends in April and I plan on getting my own place. Just a tip — never move in with friends. It will not work.”
Users react
Horrified users flooded the thread with sympathy.
“The cigarette pile is insane,” one person wrote.
Another person replied: “Gross. Glad you are getting out of there! Maybe start early on packing and keep your dishware in your room (just keep one set handy for your personal use).
“Part of me wants to be petty and sweep the cigarette butts up and put them on his bed and say something like, ‘it seemed you wanted to hang onto these for some reason, so here you go.'”
While somebody else chimed in: “A lot of the time when people live with ‘friends’ they end up realising they need new friends.”
And another person wrote: “Never ever move in with friends. I learned this the hard way twice!”

Rather than just dropping your concerns into the conversation, ask if you can have a house meeting.
Explain it would be fair to reapportion the chores, although you still will want to play your part.
Ask your electricity provider for a smart meter so they can see how much the bills go up when they’re home.
