Morse Road 'miracle pups' soon to be adopted
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — Ten newborn puppies found in a box on the side of Morse Road on a well-below-freezing January day will soon be up for adoption at the Franklin County Dog Shelter.
“I love it. I mean, they’re a little fat, a little chubby, but they are very happy, they love each other," Hannah Henschen, animal care manager at the Franklin County Dog Shelter, said.
Even though they are only eight weeks old, they've already been on quite the journey. A good Samaritan found them in the box and brought them to the shelter. They've since been known as the "Morse Road Miracle Pups."
“It was a miracle that somebody found them and got them to us and that we had the resources to immediately start taking care of them," Kaye Persinger, director of Franklin County Animal Care and Control, said.
There were ten puppies in the box. Five have been taken care of by one foster home, and the other five have been with Henschen. The five in Henschen's care have been named Elizabeth, Isabella, Jane, William and Charles.
"They’ll run right up to people, neighbors behind me they love to say hi when they’re out and about. They’ve gone to a couple schools now and met with children. My nieces and nephews have come over to play with them. They’ve met my dogs, other dogs here," Henschen said.
Henschen fosters puppies often, and she said this group is one of the most social groups she's had. Now, they are ready for their next journey.
“They really could have died out in that cold day, in that box if they were left any much longer," Henschen said. “Seeing how happy and healthy they are from that little box is just the best.”
The shelter estimated the puppies will be about 50 or 60 pounds once they are full grown. They will be at the shelter's Sunday puppy yoga event. The event is sold out, but the "Morse Road Miracle Pups" will be available for adoption after.
