Residents displaced after massive fire at NW Oklahoma City apartment complex
OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) - Multiple tenants at a northwest Oklahoma City apartment complex are looking for a new place to stay after their building was destroyed in a massive fire on Friday morning.
“All you feel is heat. It got really intense when the fire kept coming like it didn’t want to stop,” said Donavan Thompson who lives nearby.
Cassandra Cosey lives in the building that went up in flames.
"It was crazy because right when we opened the door and the smoke was just 'woosh,’” said Cosey. “It was already black and dark and stuff. We couldn't even really see."
Oklahoma City Fire crews were called to the Lakeside Village apartment complex near Wilshire Boulevard and Northwest Expressway just before 6:30 a.m.
Fortunately, all of the tenants in the building safely made it out. However, David Shearer, an OKCFD shift commander said six of the building's eight units are significantly damaged.
"Everyone in this building is going to be displaced,” said Shearer. “I don't know how many occupants that is, but it's a total of eight units and I do know two of the units were unoccupied."
Neighbors are now stepping up to help displaced tenants as they try to figure out their next moves.
"We don't have nowhere to go,” said Cosey. “Everything got totaled in our apartment, all my cards, information, and stuff like that is damaged so I don't know."
No injuries were reported.
However some pets are missing. Fire officials are hoping they escaped.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
