'Challenging time': Oregon Rep. Hoa Nguyen diagnosed with stage four cancer
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – An Oregon state representative announced Friday that she has received a stage four cancer diagnosis that could impact her legislative duties.
Rep. Hoa Nguyen (D-East Portland and Damascus) shared the news in a press release that described her diagnosis as “a difficult personal challenge” as she begins chemotherapy.
“This is a challenging time for me, but I am fortunate to have an incredible team of doctors supporting me,” Nguyen said.
However, Nguyen’s office said she will continue to virtually participate in her duties, though she may not be “physically present” for floor votes.
“I remain fully committed to House District 48 and am grateful for my staff, who are ensuring that the work of the Chronic Absenteeism Workgroup and the Child Care Caucus moves forward. My staff will also be available for our constituents, and provide services to House District 48,” Nguyen said. “I am confident the House Democratic Caucus will continue to protect the interests of Oregonians, and my voice will be part of that effort. I look forward to being back on my feet soon to continue serving HD 48.”
