Huge street fight breaks out between several people and police
Six people have been arrested after police officers were punched and kicked in a mass street fight.
CCTV footage shows several men and police officers in an altercation in the Bensham area of Gateshead, near Newcastle on Tuesday.
The men can be seen kicking and punching the officers, who had been called to a welfare issue in the street.
Officers fight-back, with one body-slamming a man before hitting him with a truncheon.
Two officers needed hospital treatment and six people were arrested.
Reinforcements arrived soon after the furore kicked off, with at least 15 officers on the scene at one point.
The footage, shared on Facebook page UK Cop Humour shows one man sitting handcuffed on the street, whilst images show another being led away by officers.
The six people, aged between 15 and 54, were arrested for affray, resisting arrest and assaulting an emergency worker. They have all now been released on bail.
