Heung-min Son’s surprising stance on signing a new Tottenham contract
As speculation over Heung-min Son’s future continues to run rife, a surprising claim has now been made about the Tottenham captain’s stance on committing to a new contract in North London.
It caught many people by surprise earlier this season when Tottenham chose to simply activate the one-year extension in Son’s contract, thus taking it to 2026, rather than offering him a long-term deal.
However, it was reported last week that the Spurs hierarchy feel their Son decision has been vindicated, given the forward’s struggles so far this season.
It has also been suggested recently that Spurs could receive big offers this summer from the Saudi Pro League for Heung-min Son, who will be into the final 12 months of his deal this June.

However, a new update from The Telegraph has now thrown the cat amongst the pigeons by suggesting that it is the player, not Tottenham, who is putting off a new deal.
The outlet claims that the Spurs hierarchy want the forward, who is into his tenth season at the club, to retire in N17. However, Tottenham have not yet been able to convince the 32-year-old to sign a long-term deal at the club.
The outlet does not explain why Son is hesitant to do so or whether he foresees pursuing a fresh challenge away from Tottenham next season.
Ange Postecoglou continues to back Son
Postecoglou has continued to completely dismiss any suggestions that Son’s form this season is a matter of concern for Tottenham.
The Australian remains adamant that the South Korean remains among the elite forwards in world football and insists that his struggles this season were purely down to fatigue.
Postecoglou came out in support of Heung-min Son last week: “His ability to beat players, even in tight areas, is elite. His finishing I think is elite. Sonny’s benefitted from the fact he’s been able to have a break between games.
“We saw that on the weekend (against Ipswich) after being able to recover from one game to another and having a full week to get his energy levels back, he was outstanding, particularly in the first half. And he was great before.
“You never want to try to predict with players like Sonny how long he will go for because those kinds of players I think always defy whatever odds there are because of the way they look after themselves and conduct themselves, the levels.
“Even this year, as difficult as it has been for us, I think his numbers still stack up. You weigh him up against any winger in the league, he’s still going to be top five. He’s probably been top five in the nine or 10 years he’s been here.”
