Sports Briefs: Carr scores 37 to lead Redwood to victory at Damien Classic
TT Carr is showing his all-star form as he scored 37 points to lead Redwood High past Etiwanda, 61-47, in the Gold Division at The Damien Classic in La Verne on Saturday. Carr added eight rebounds to his effort.
Senior Tyler White had nine points and five rebounds, while Duke Aarsheim had seven points, seven rebounds and three blocks. The Giants (6-4) beat Northeast of Florida on Friday behind Carr’s 21-point effort, bolstered by 16 points from White and 11 points from Brennan Woodley.
Redwood is scheduled to face Prescott of Arizona in the consolation championship on Monday as the elite tournament wraps up.
• NJ Gray scored a team-high 20 points as the Branson School edged Pacifica, 66-65, in the Diamond Division of the The Damien Classic on Saturday. The Bulls will face either San Juan Hills or Washington Prep in Monday’s consolation championship. Junior Chase Robertson tallied 13 points, six rebounds and three assists, while sophomore Heath French had 10 points.
• University jumped out to a 10-point lead in the first quarter and never let host Marin Catholic catch up as the Wildcats lost, 74-51, during Saturday’s round of the Bambauer Classic. Henry Dibble led the Wildcats with nine points, while Chase Hatch added eight points, and Lucas Rotem dropped in seven points and four assists. Marin Catholic is scheduled to play MCAL rival San Marin in the seventh-place game on Monday. San Marin lost a heartbreaker to Urban, 48-45, on Saturday. Dibble scored 16 points and Rotem added 13 as Marin Catholic fell 69-64 in overtime against Redmond (Wash.) in the Bambauer Classic on Friday night. Oliver Myers added 10 points for MC.
• Evan Brewster and Chase Addleman led Terra Linda past Ukiah, 58-40, on Saturday to finish the Sonoma County Classic on a high note after dropping the first two games. Bewster scored a team-best 21 points while Addleman had 20 points for the Trojans (9-3). Brewster and Pele Love were both named to the all-tournament team.
Girls basketball
A shorthanded San Domenico squad lost to Los Banos, 51-41, in semifinal action of the Sapphire Bracket at the West Coast Jamboree on Saturday. With only seven players suited up, the Panthers struggled to find their rhythm and ran out of steam in the second half against Los Banos’ constant full court pressure. Stanford commit Carly Amborn led the way with 17 points before fouling out in the fourth quarter. Amahji Cook had 13 points and Sanne Kostecki scored 10 for San Domenico.
• Marin Academy will play for the championship in the Topaz Bracket of the West Coast Jamboree on Monday after earning a 64-30 victory over Ygnacio Valley in Saturday’s semifinals. The Wildcats will face the winner of the other semifinal between Livermore and Vintage.
• Redwood High lost to Antelope, 54-49, on Saturday in the Emerald Bracket of the West Coast Jamboree. The Giants are scheduled to face Bishop Manogue on Monday’s finale.
• The Branson School fell to Buchanan of Fresno, 68-40, in Saturday’s Sapphire Bracket action at the West Coast Jamboree. The Bulls (6-5) are scheduled to wrap up the tournament on Monday against James Logan.
• Tamalpais High narrowly lost to Oakland, 47-44, in. the Amber Division of the West Coast Jamboree on Saturday. The Red-tailed Hawks are scheduled to face Pleasant Grove in Monday’s finale.
• St. Vincent de Paul of Petaluma dropped Saturday’s Pearl Bracket game 46-39 to Encinal. The Mustangs are scheduled to play Las Lomas on Monday as they look to end 2024 with a win.
• San Marin (10-3) broke out of the gate quickly but was stymied later in the game during Saturday’s 55-51 loss to Rancho Buena Vista during the SoCal Showcase championship game.
• Archie Williams marched past host Analy, 53-30, on Saturday. The Peregrin Falcons (6-4) are riding a three-game winning streak into Thursday’s non-league matchup with Novato.
Prep wrestling
Redwood High senior Alexander Berkowitz placed second at the Lou Bronzan Invitational in the 165-pound bracket. Berkowitz (13-3) was undefeated in three matches to lock in a shot at the title, but lost 6-1 to Upper Lake’s Aiden Dancer in Saturday’s final. Redwood junior Jake Heravi (16-6) captured fifth place at 157 pounds with a 7-0 decision over Dublin’s Landry Ngambia.
Giants sophomore Dylan Morton (15-6) won a 5-0 decision over College Park sophomore Gabriel Northrup to claim seventh place at 126 pounds. The Giants’ Hayden Schepps went 2-2 at 150 pounds during the weekend.
• Archie Williams High School junior Sofi De Jesus took third place at the Brittany David Invitational in Brentwood on Saturday in the 115-pound bracket. De Jesus (4-1) pinned Dougherty Valley junior Charlotte Macachor in 3:56 during her final match of the weekend.
