Safiyya Vorajee reveals heart-breaking way she will spend Christmas day after tragically losing her daughter
SAFIYYA Vorajee will pay an emotional visit to her late daughter’s memorial garden this Christmas, to pay tribute to the little one.
Her daughter Azaylia tragically passed away aged just eight months in April 2021, after being diagnosed with a rare form of leukaemia.
But Safiyya will be thinking about Azaylia a lot over the festive period, and on Christmas Day she will visit her daughter’s memorial garden, which she and her ex, Ashley Cain – Azaylia’s father – created in memory of their late tot.
When asked how she will spend Christmas, the aesthetic practitioner, 37, told us: “I’ll be with my mum, my stepdad and my brother and my nephew, but I always go on my own to Azaylia’s garden.
“I’ll spend a bit of time there on Christmas Day.”
Safiyya recently broke her silence after ex-professional footballer Ashley – who she split from 11 months after Azaylia’s death – announced the arrival of his second child with his new girlfriend.
Ashley, 34, who is also a dad to son Aliyas Diamond, who was born in January, confirmed the birth of son Atlas Diamond Cain in late November, admitting he is “bursting with pride and excitement”.
Speaking exclusively to The Sun at the MBCC Awards in the Hilton Birmingham Metropole, Safiyya sent her blessings to her ex.
She told us: “For me, I know he is an amazing dad, and he always will be an amazing dad.
“He’s just really blessed, and I hope he enjoys every moment of it.”
When asked if she will send a present to celebrate Atlas’ arrival, Safiyya added: “In time. When everything is very new and very early, it’s still taken a lot of time to adjust myself.
“I think step by step, as that journey grows and I become more braver and more courageous, I can welcome more things into my life.”
Ashley and Safiyya – who trained as a dental nurse – started dating in 2017 and they welcomed Azaylia into the world in August 2020.
However, tragedy struck when she was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia at just eight weeks old.
The couple hit the headlines while raising awareness of Azaylia’s plight, but she passed away six months after her diagnosis.
While Ashley is in a new relationship, he has not confirmed the identity of his partner. Safiyya remains single.
What disease did Azaylia have and when did she die?

The TV star wrote: “Azaylia Diamond Cain 7lbs 10oz. Born 10/08/2020. Time 06:56.
“There is no words to describe this feeling.”
But just two months after her birth, Azaylia was diagnosed with a an aggressive form of leukaemia.
The parents were devastated after doctors found more tumours and ran out of options to save the young girl.
It was announced on April 25, 2021, that the tot had passed away from the disease.
Ashley told fans the heartbreaking news, writing: “Rest in paradise princess. I will always hold you in my heart until I can hold you again in heaven.”
Azaylia’s mum Safiyya Vorajee added: “You are my Angel my heartbeat my soul, RIP my precious baby, you will always be with me like a handprint on my heart.”
And in a further post the same day, Saffiya paid a further emotional tribute to her baby daughter.
She posted on Instagram: “You are my Angel my heartbeat my soul, RIP my precious baby, you will always be with me like a handprint on my heart.”
