Mum killed and daughter injured in horror crash days before Christmas
A 53-year-old mum has died and her daughter injured after being struck by a car in Essex just days before Christmas.
The crash happened shortly before 5.30pm on Thursday at the junction of Hamlet Court Road and St John’s Road in Westcliff.
The woman and the 23-year-old daughter were taken to hospital but sadly the mother died.
The daughter’s condition is not thought to be life-threatening or life-changing, said Essex Police.
The driver of a black Suzuki Splash was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving while unfit through drink or drugs.
The woman, aged 31, was taken into custody for questioning.
The mother’s family are being supported by specialist officers.
Police are appealing for any witnesses and anyone with dashcam footage of the accident to get in touch.
