'What he did is wrong': Mother says her son should not get lower bond
POTTAWOTOMIE COUNTY, Okla. (KFOR) — A man accused of sexually assaulting multiple underaged girls was in court Friday and his own mother is warning the public about the threat he may still pose.
Brandi Green said Friday in court was the first time she has seen her son, 21-year-old Brinden Ponkilla, in over year.
"He's still my son and I love him, but what he did is wrong," said Green.
Ponkilla is accused in a series of sexual assaults.
He was arrested in late September and was later released on bond, but was handcuffed again after more victims came forward.
At Friday's hearing, his attorney asked for a lower bond, something his mother said should not happen.
"He does not need to bond out and put the public in danger or any of these victims in danger," said Green.
Green launched this Facebook page, hoping to bring awareness, highlighting the alleged victims of her son. Some of the victims are as young as 14.
"I just was making people aware and people came forward on their own," said Green.
Ponkilla's attorney argued that a lower bond will allow his client to help with his case "outside of jail rather than inside."
Prosecutors countered, calling Ponkilla's crimes "serious, violent, and dangerous."
"The public needs to be safe," said Green. "I never realized how much overwhelming evidence there was and how many victims there were."
Green said she is not giving up her fight to hold her son accountable.
"Hopefully something will get done," said Green.
The judge dropped Ponkilla's bond from $250,000 to $150,000. He bonded out of jail just a few hours later.
His preliminary hearing is set for next month.
