'Wicked' Movie Script Reveals Why Fiyero Went Shirtless in Deleted Scene
We recently learned that Jonathan Bailey went shirtless in the movie Wicked, but the scene was deleted. Now, we know why Fiyero took his shirt off!
Deadline has released the full original screenplay for Wicked and it features deleted scenes and lines that were ultimately cut out of the finished film.
Bowen Yang previously revealed that between “Popular” and the classroom scene with Doctor Dillamond getting fired, there was a “whole montage just to show the audience that these are all friends now: Fiyero, Galinda, Elphaba, Nessa, and Boq, the five of them running around, hanging out.”
Ethan Slater, who plays Boq, also takes his shirt off in the montage.
“You were supposed to see Jonathan Bailey in his full shirtless glory, flexing, and then Boq being insecure and wanting to look hot too, like take his shirt off. But then it’s like, ‘Oh, wait, Ethan’s got a great body,’” Bowen said during an appearance on the Just Trish podcast.
So, what was actually happening in that moment? We have an excerpt from the script!

In the montage, the five friends went into the woods together, where they’re led to a secluded clearing.

“Boq leads them to a huge, rotting tree. The friends look around, then back to Boq, puzzled– why have you brought us here? In answer, Boq pulls out… an axe,” the scene directions read.
The script continues, “LATER. The dead tree is partly cleared. Fiyero takes off his shirt. Wow. Boq takes off his shirt. Wow? REVEAL Nessa, Elphaba and a somewhat distracted (by Fiyero) Galinda, as the three girls chop and haul away the rest of the tree.”
