Vera star Brenda Blethyn reveals epic set blunder that saw a CAR hurtling towards ITV cameras
BRENDA Blethyn has revealed an epic set blunder on Vera that saw a car hurtling towards the camera crew.
The Bafta-winning star is bowing out of the iconic role after 14 years this January as her final ever scenes air.
But ahead of the feature-length episodes, Brenda has shared behind-the-scenes secrets from filming over the years.
The 78-year-old previously told The Sun how she developed Bell’s Palsy during a shoot and was rushed to hospital.
And now Brenda has revealed how a scene involving her getting out of a 4×4 Land Rover nearly resulted in chaos on set.
She recalled: “Well, the Land Rover, I do drive it, it’s me who drives it mostly, but I had to drive across Moorland and it’s a very uneven terrain quite quickly and stop six feet in front of the camera and I was accurate. I was really good.
“So I jumped, bumped, and I stopped there and I did everything I had to do, out of gear and got out.
“They said, ‘Brenda, you’ve hit the mark exactly but you’ve got to get out quicker. You’ve got to get out the car quicker’.
“So back we go and we’ll drive all the way back there and I’m coming, bump, bump, bump, and I stopped right out of gear, turn it off, handbrake on, seatbelt off… again they said you’ve got to get out quicker.
“I said, ‘well I’ve got, I’ve got, they said, what was that? You’ve got to get out quicker’.
“So I went all the way back again and went, bump, bump, bump and I’m out and the car started rolling towards the camera.
“So we’ve all ran around the other side of the camera holding the landing like this.”
Meanwhile, first look episodes from Vera’s final series show the detective desperately calling for help.
The episodes are called ‘Inside’ and ‘The Dark Wives’ as Vera looks into the case surrounding these gripping murder mysteries.
The legendary detective has to deal with the heartfelt narrative of her own personal journey.
New pictures show the officer standing by her famous 4×4 as she urgently holds her hand high in a call for help.
