Fans commented online: “Sack Alison Hammond and give Pete her job. He would be so good on For The Love Of Dogs.”
A second added: “He probably will now he’s become more of a name off of Strictly.”
A third agreed: “Came on to say exactly the same. He has the same empathy for dogs as Paul O’Grady did and anyone can see that.”
A fourth penned: “Should have had Pete take over from Paul O’Grady. He’s a true dog lover like Paul was.”
“Petition for Pete to become the new presenter on For The Love Of Dogs,” urged another.
The swarthy star told fans in a recent video online: “It’s no secret that I love dogs and between all of the craziness of the past few months, there’s nothing better than getting to spend time with Eric and Peggy.“
The Essex lad is already set to front a new programme, Pete Wicks: For Dogs’ Sake, which offers a behind the scenes look at the realities of animal rescue working with Basildon Dogs Trust.
Pete has loved animals ever since he was a kid and prefers them to people because he feels they ‘live in the moment’.
Pete owns rescue dogs himself and spends time at rehoming centres helping out because he believes every dog deserves to be loved.
This Morning star Alison has been subject to criticism from ITV viewers – with many saying she is the wrong host for the show after taking over from the late great Paul O’Grady.
Fans have questioned if Alison was the right host for the ITV show.
Die-hard fans pointed out that Alison doesn’t have any pets, which lead them to believe that she isn’t as passionate about animals as Paul was.
The Sun previously revealed how ratings for the ITV series had nosedived since Paul’s death.
The late star had three dogs, two of them rescued from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, where the show is filmed.
Viewers have previously taken to social media and slammed Alison for being “scripted” and failing to deliver a personal touch.
