5th Annual Gold Derby Music Awards winners to be announced Friday, Dec. 13
Head over to Gold Derby’s Twitter/X feed on Friday, Dec. 13, at 9 a.m. PT/12 p.m ET for the announcement of the 5th Annual Gold Derby Music Awards winners. More than 1,700 registered Gold Derby users cast votes across 27 categories to decide who really had the best music achievements during the eligibility period of Sept. 16, 2023 through Aug. 30, 2024 — the same time frame as the Grammys. Will your favorite artist win? And with Grammy voting now underway, will the Recording Academy follow our lead? If you need a refresher on our GDMA nominees, scroll down for the complete list.
Charli XCX leads with 11 nominations, including Artist, Album (“Brat“), Record (“360”), and Song of the Year (“360”). Following with nine nominations each are Ariana Grande, Beyoncé, and Billie Eilish. Like Charli, each of those artists is nominated across the top four categories of Artist, Album, Record, and Song of the Year. But only Chappell Roan scored in all top five categories: the ones mentioned plus Best New Artist; the “Midwest Princess” has eight noms altogether. Sabrina Carpenter isn’t nominated for Best New Artist at these awards, despite being nominated there at the Grammys. That’s because we already gave her that award last year. She is, however, up for Artist, Album, Record, and Song of the Year, plus a trio of pop awards, for a total of seven.
Joining Charli, Grande, Beyoncé, Eilish, Carpenter, and Roan in the Artist of the Year lineup are Benson Boone, Kendrick Lamar, Lady Gaga, and undefeated four-time champion Taylor Swift. That’s not the only title Swift is trying to defend. She’s also up for Album of the Year for “The Tortured Poets Department” after having won that prize for “Midnights” at the last GDMAs. In fact, she won all nine of her categories at that event, though she only has five total nominations this time around. But what matters is what the fans ultimately say. Find out their final verdicts tomorrow.
