Luisangel Acuña Dominates Winter Ball Doubleheader
Luisangel Acuña had another strong showing Friday in the Venezuelan Winter League.
In a doubleheader for the Cardenales de Lara, the righty went 4-for-7 with three RBI, runs scored, and stolen bases. The Cardenales de Lara swept both games, winning 5-2 and 8-7 in extras.
The former top-100 prospect has been absolutely sizzling in Winter ball. He’s now hitting .388 with a .997 OPS through 17 games, including two doubles, one triple, and one homer.
The signs are encouraging for Acuña heading into 2025. He played an important role with the team down the stretch in 2024, showing his ability to play shortstop and second base, while also displaying his offensive prowess against major league pitching.
Acuña’s role with the team in 2025 isn’t as clear cut, with Ronny Mauricio, Jett Williams, and Brett Baty at the doorstep, but certainly proved he’s among the caliber of those names.
And while the Venezuelan league is comparable to Double-A, the domination at the plate is a positive sign for the 22-year-old.
