Ali Reza Bigdeli, Iran’s new Ambassador, arrives in Kabul
Reports indicate that Ali Reza Bigdeli, the new ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran, arrived in Kabul on Saturday, November 30.
Upon his arrival in Kabul, Mr. Bigdeli told the media that expanding Iran’s “neighborhood relations with Afghanistan” would be one of his main priorities, and he would use this opportunity to “enhance relations between the two countries.”
He emphasized the cultural similarities between the two nations, which could serve as a foundation for strengthening bilateral ties, and added that people-to-people cooperation could play a significant role in improving relations.
The new Iranian ambassador also addressed the sensitive issue of Afghan migrants in Iran, stating that legal migrants are respected and “have a place in our hearts.”
Regarding illegal migrants, he urged that they should return to their home country and enter Iran through legal channels.
Mr. Ali Reza Bigdeli was appointed by the Islamic Republic of Iran as the new ambassador to Afghanistan last week.
Before his appointment, Hassan Kazemi Qomi had been in charge of the Iranian Embassy in Kabul, but he was removed from his position for unspecified reasons.
The arrival of Ambassador Bigdeli marks a new chapter in Iran-Afghanistan relations, with a focus on cultural cooperation and migrant issues. His comments highlight a diplomatic shift toward fostering closer ties between the neighboring countries.
As diplomatic and economic challenges continue to shape the region, the emphasis on legal migration and cultural ties may provide a platform for strengthening bilateral cooperation. However, how both countries address issues of mutual concern will determine the future trajectory of their relationship.
