'This has gotta be it': NYT drops 'alarming story' about comments by Trump pick's mom
Donald Trump's nomination of Fox and Friends co-host Pete Hegseth to lead the Department of Defense surprised MAGA allies and experts alike, and a New York Times report suggests new details coming from Hegseth's mom.
In an article entitled, "Pete Hegseth’s Mother Accused Her Son of Mistreating Women for Years," the outlet Friday reported, "Penelope Hegseth made the accusation in an email to her son in 2018, amid his contentious divorce. She said on Friday that she regretted the email and had apologized to him."
"On behalf of all the women (and I know it’s many) you have abused in some way, I say … get some help and take an honest look at yourself,” Penelope Hegseth said, according to the report.

She also said, "I have no respect for any man that belittles, lies, cheats, sleeps around and uses women for his own power and ego. You are that man (and have been for years) and as your mother, it pains me and embarrasses me to say that, but it is the sad, sad truth," according to the report.
Independent journalist Aaron Rupar said in response, "This has gotta be it."
Barack Obama appointee Eric Columbus also chimed in:
"This alarming story about Pete Hegseth and his mom (who is now frantically backtracking) is quite a twist on the journalistic adage 'If your mother says she loves you, check it out.'"
