139 touches, 114 passes & 8 recoveries: 8/10 United star was terrific vs Bodo/Glimt, Amorim has transformed him - opinion
Manchester United picked up their second victory of the Europa League campaign on Thursday.
The Red Devils registered a 3-2 comeback win over Bodo/Glimt last night, but it was far from straightforward.
The defensive organisation was unconvincing for most of the game, but one player stood out with his individual display.
Noussair Mazraoui was brilliant as the right centre-back during the 1-1 Premier League draw at Ipswich Town last weekend.
The Moroccan started in the same role against Bodo/Glimt and showed his class once more.
The 27-year-old had 139 touches in the contest with 114 out of 119 passes completed. He won six out of his seven duels contested.
Mazraoui also made eight recoveries, five clearances and completed 100 percent of his crosses. He received a Sofascore rating of almost 8/10 (7.9).
The versatile defender capped the performance with a brilliant assist for Rasmus Hojlund’s equaliser before the half-time break.
Mazraoui has been exceptional under Amorim
The former Bayern Munich man was initially signed to provide competition for places to Diogo Dalot at right-back, but he has exceeded expectations.
He was brilliant in the right and left-back roles earlier this campaign, and he has now established himself on the right side of the back three for United.
Mazraoui’s ability on the ball has been quite evident to see. He was clearly a cut above the rest yesterday and appears a huge bargain signing at £12.8 million.
The full-back made a strong impression earlier this season with his inverted runs into midfield, but we are seeing a different side of him under Amorim.
The Portuguese has had limited training sessions with Mazraoui, but it seems the 39-year-old has transformed the Moroccan into a better version of himself.
