1 dead, 3 injured after 'significant' multi-car crash near Northeast Lombard Street
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Emergency responders are advising people to avoid a deadly crash involving three cars in Northeast Portland Thursday night, authorities said.
"Crews on scene of a significant multiple vehicle crash at NE 15th/NE Lombard, please avoid the area," Portland Fire and Rescue said in a post on X at 6:13 p.m.
A few minutes later, PF&R posted another update saying one person died and three others were sent to the hospital.
In another update, PF&R clarified that two of the people who were sent to the hospital had "potentially life-threatening injuries." A third patient "was able to walk but was transported for evaluation at a hospital."
The Portland Police Bureau said in a release that officers responded to reports of a crash just after 6 p.m. When police arrived, they found a woman occupying one of the three vehicles involved in the crash dead at the scene.
PPB said that during the investigation, Northeast Lombard Street is closed between Northeast 11th Avenue and Northeast 15th Avenue.
At 10:45 p.m., all lanes of Northeast Lombard Street reopened between Northeast 11th and 15th Avenues — in both directions — following the crash, the Oregon Department of Transportation said. However, transportation officials urged commuters to still use an alternate route, if possible, "as it may take backed up traffic time to clear."
Anyone with information about the crash is encouraged to contact Portland police.
