Morning Briefing: Mets Sign Jakson Reetz to Minors Deal

The Mets signed catcher Jakson Reetz to a minor league contract with an invite to spring training on Friday. The 28-year-old had a .799 OPS in Triple-A in 2024, and he has a home run and two doubles in 16 career major league at-bats. Reetz is the latest signing in what has been a busy week for David Stearns, who continued to add depth to the Mets organizations with the signings of Joey Meneses and Hobie Harris.

The Mets non-tendered three players before Friday’s deadline: Grant Hartwig, Alex Ramirez, and Alex Young. Hartwig and Young are relievers who have spent time with the big league club while Ramirez is a former top prospect who has seen that status fade in recent years. The Mets also tendered contracts with the rest of their arbitration-eligible players, including David Peterson and Tyrone Taylor.
Per MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo, reliever Dedniel Núñez is on the right track in his recovery from a strained right flexor tendon. Núñez is set to work out with the Tigres de Licey in the Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League.

Several players across the league were non-tendered with the non-tender deadline passing, including Gavin Sheets (CWS), Kyle Finnegan (WAS), Jordan Romano (TOR), Bryan De La Cruz (PIT) and Connor Joe (PIT).
Per Robert Murray of FanSided, the Reds sent Jonathan India to the Royals in exchange for Brady Singer. India, the former NL Rookie of the Year, has a .764 OPS in four seasons while Singer had a 3.71 ERA a season ago.
Murray also reports that the Rockies signed infielder Kyle Farmer. Farmer had a .647 OPS in 107 games with the Twins in 2024.
The Dodgers named former Rangers manager Chris Woodward as their first base coach following Clayton McCullough‘s departure to manage the Marlins.
The Braves announced that they hired Hugh Quattlebaum and Carlos Méndez as assistant hitting coaches. Quattlebaum was the Mets’ major league hitting coach in 2021, taking over for Chili Davis who was fired early in the season.
