Iconic fast food chain that ‘blows McDonald’s out of the water’ plans to open 400 locations in UK
AN ICONIC fast food chain that “blows McDonald’s out of the water” has plans to open 400 locations.
With over 30 UK branches already, the chain now intends to expand across the North, Midlands, Southeast, Southwest and London.
Wendy’s has announced plans to open 400 locations across the UK[/caption] The chain is known for its square burgers, Frosty dessert and breakfast menu[/caption]The burger joint Wendy’s is already a hit in the US with over 6,000 restaurants.
And Brits will now see new sites pop up in Newcastle, Rutland, Colchester, west London, and six more locations in the Southwest which haven’t been announced yet.
Through the mass expansion, Wendy’s aims to persuade Brits to swerve their usual Maccies or Burger King, according to its UK managing director.
Michael Clarke said: “With more than 30 restaurants already open, these plans reflect our ambition to expand to 400 locations nationwide, enabling more people to enjoy our food.
“We’re excited to welcome new team members and invite consumers to cheat on their usual and try Wendy’s.”
The expansion into the Southwest is thanks to a development agreement with franchise organisation Khidmat Limited.
Its managing director, Farhat Abbas, was equally excited about the move.
He said: “We believe that everyone in the U.K. should have access to Wendy’s food, and we’re excited to grow with a brand that has such loyal fans across the globe.”
It is hoped that 120 jobs will be created through the four revealed locations.
Wendy’s is known for its distinctive square beef patties, spicy chicken sandwich and classic Frosty dessert – which is a mix between a milkshake and an ice cream.
The chain also offers a popular breakfast menu, with breakfast burgers and sandwiches.
Speaking on Reddit, one fan claimed the breakfast selection “blows McDonald’s out the water”.
After a failed British expansion in the between the 1980s and and early 2000s, Wendy’s returned to the UK in 2021.
Since then, it has has launched 34 sites across the country.
Eight locations were already opened earlier this year – including in Middlesbrough, Liverpool and Sheffield.
News of the latest plans comes after a Wendy’s fan revealed how he managed to skip the queue at the mega diner in Hull.
And, the chain added four new wraps to its UK menu – Signature Chicken, BBQ Chicken, Curry Mayo and Avocado Chicken.
