Get ready for The Next Day of the Jackal.
Peacock and Sky have renewed “The Day of the Jackal,” the international assassin thriller series starring Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne, for Season 2, Deadline reports.
A joint venture between the Peacock streaming service and the British broadcaster Sky, “The Day of the Jackal” follows Redmayne’s titular contract killer as he carries out expensive, high-stakes hits, evades getting captured by MI6 agent Bianca Pullman (Lashana Lynch), and tries to keep what he really does for a living a secret from his wife, Nuria (Úrsula Corberó).
The series is based on the classic 1971 novel by Frederick Forsyth that was previously adapted into a film in 1973 and again very loosely in 1997 as “The Jackal.” It was created for television by Ronan Bennett. The Season 1 cast also includes Charles Dance, Richard Dormer, Chukwudi Iwuji, Lia Williams, Khalid Abdalla, Eleanor Matsuura, Jonjo O’Neill, Nick Blood, Sule Rimi, and Florisa Kamara.
The renewal news came quickly after the show’s Nov. 7 premiere in Great Britain and Nov. 14 premiere on Peacock. Per Deadline, the show ranked in the top spot on Nielsen’s most-watched shows on Peacock list for the week of its premiere, and perhaps more pertinently, it’s already Sky’s most-watched original ever. It has received positive reviews, with an 84% “Certified Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Season 1 is airing now, with the season finale dropping Dec. 12 on Peacock.
