Three simple homemade beauty gifts to make this Christmas
INDULGE someone special this Christmas with a homemade beauty gift.
With just a few simple ingredients, craft expert Becci Coombes (hyggestyle.co.uk) says you can make perfect pamper presents.
Follow her ideas below, but remember that essential oils aren’t suitable for under-12s or pregnant women, and people with underlying health conditions should be cautious.
MILK IT: Try Becci’s rose petal and oat bath soak, from her book Craft Your Own Cosy Scandi Christmas.
Whizz 15g dried rose petals and 100g oats in a blender until ground.
Tip into a large bowl and add 125g full-fat milk powder, 100g bicarbonate of soda and 75g cornflour.
Sprinkle over 14 drops of skin-safe essential oils and stir thoroughly, before packing into glass jars.
SCANDI-STYLE SCRUB: To make Becci’s essential oils salts scrub, melt 110g of coconut oil and three tablespoons of sweet almond oil in a small pan and then cool.
Mix 25 drops of skin-safe essential oil (such as five each of pine, bergamot and frankincense and ten of lavender), before adding the melted oils a little at a time and swirling around.
Measure 450g Dead Sea salts into a large bowl, add a tablespoon of dried lavender (optional), then pour in the oil mixture, stirring well.
Tip into a clean 500ml jar and leave in a dark place for a week.
To use, have a small scoop or spoon handy, as the mixture will last months if not contaminated by water.
Add a label warning it shouldn’t be used on faces or delicate areas.
HOMEMADE HAMPERS: If you don’t want to make your own products, personalising a beauty hamper makes a thoughtful gift for a good price.
Split up multibuy deals and make a few hampers for friends.
Include things like soaps, shower gel, lip balms, face masks and hand cream.
Cover with florist cellophane for a show-stopping gift.
