‘2028 race has started’: Fox News host says Dems will attack Trump to boost their profile
The resistance to President-elect Donald Trump’s new administration is starting to show signs of life, according to Fox News host Jesse Watters, who declared that the 2028 presidential race has already begun.
“The resistance is coming into focus,” Watters said Friday on “The Five,” adding that the opposition during Trump’s first term included Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), former FBI Director James Comey and special counsel Robert Mueller.
“Now it looks like it’s the Blue State governors, and the 2028 presidential race has started,” Watters said. “So, the best way to raise your profile if you’re a Democrat is to clash with Trump. Now does that help the people you represent? No, but they don’t care,” he said with a laugh. “It’s not about that it’s just about politics.”

Watters then previewed what he sees as the next big battles to play out over Trump’s new administration. Those fights include energy and deportation – which the host admitted will be tough for Trump – and homelessness in light of Los Angeles being home to the 2028 Summer Olympics.
“I think he’ll be effective in that,” Watters said about Trump curbing Los Angeles’ homeless problem. “Because everybody doesn’t want to embarrass the country.”
He then offered a stark preview of what resistance to Trump’s promise of instituting mass deportations in the country would look like.
“There will be massive clashes,” he said. “Because you’re going to have cameras out there making sure that they capture the images of ICE coming along and taking these people away – they deserve to be taken away – sometimes you have to do tough stuff.”
“AOC is going to be there tying herself to migrants. It’s going to be hysterical,” Watters said.
He added: “But sometimes dad has to do the tough thing. Doesn’t make it always look great, but it’s the right thing to do.”
