Nicole Scherzinger Gets 6-Minute Mid-Show Standing Ovation During 'Sunset Boulevard' Opening Night, Cements Tony Award Frontrunner Status
Nicole Scherzinger has proven that she is the biggest star of the Broadway season and she’s the one to beat for the Tony Award in 2025.
The beloved entertainer received glowing reviews for her performance in Sunset Boulevard during opening night on Sunday (October 20) at the St. James Theatre in New York City.
People reports that Nicole received “multiple mid-show standing ovations — including one that lasted 6 minutes” from the star-studded crowd on opening night.
Having already won an Olivier Award for her performance, it seems Nicole is likely going to be our next Best Actress in a Musical winner for the 2025 Tony Awards!
After the performance, Nicole and her co-star Tom Francis walked the red carpet at the opening night after party.
Nicole wrote on Instagram before the show, “I believe God has a plan for all of us—a plan and a purpose. I believe you just have to listen to the whispers of your heart and trust Him. I see now that this show, and telling Norma’s story, was God’s divine plan for me all along. There was a purpose behind all the patience, pain, and pushbacks that have been scattered amongst the beauty of my life so far.”
“Tonight I fulfill my childhood dream. It is the Opening Night of my Broadway Debut in Sunset Boulevard. I have followed my heart, and now, ‘I’M BACK WHERE I WAS BORN TO BE,’” she continued. “It’s funny how God brings you back to your roots and the initial desire He placed on your heart. Theater was where everything started for me. ‘THIS WORLD’S WAITED LONG ENOUGH, I’VE COME HOME AT LAST.’ I am so honored to take the stage with this brave and beautiful cast, crew, and creatives. ‘I’M READY FOR MY CLOSE-UP.’ ♥️????.”
