LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) -- A 33-year-old woman died Sunday morning in a vehicle crash near the intersection of Bertrand Drive and W. Congress Street, according to the Lafayette Police Department.
The crash claimed the life of Molly Deshotels.
According to a news release, the crash occurred at around 3:50 a.m. Deshotels was pronounced dead at the scene.
Through an investigation and review of surveillance cameras, Lafayette police determined that Deshotels was traveling north in the 700 block of Bertrand Drive with a red traffic signal. At the same time, another vehicle was traveling west in the 2400 block of W. Congress Street with a yellow traffic signal.
Police said Deshotels "failed to adhere to the red light" and struck the driver's side of the other vehicle.
The driver of the other vehicle was taken to Ochsner University Hospital and Clinic for the treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. The driver provided a voluntary blood sample, police said.
The crash remains under investigation.
