Departing and arriving flights have been suspended at Bergamo Orio al Serio airport, near Milan, Italy, following the horror scare.
Passengers are now waiting at Bergamo Orio al Serio airport after flights were suspended[/caption]It is understood the flight was coming from Barcelona when its tyres popped around 8am local time, L’Eco Di Bergamo reports.
The reason behind the accident is not yet known.
No injuries have been reported as passengers disembarked the aircraft via mobile stairs on the runway.
Two emergency vehicles from the Bergamo headquarters and five from the airport responded right away.
But due to the damage caused by the plane to the runway, major delays are expected as flights will be suspended until at least 5pm local time.
Reopening is scheduled for the early afternoon, Italian media reports.
Incoming flights were made to land at other airports including Milan Malpensa and Verona, according to Sky Italia.
Runway cleanup operations are currently underway and once done, the plane can be removed and the airport reopened.
The Sun has contacted Ryanair for comment.
In a statement, the airline said: “Flight FR846 from Barcelona to Milan Bergamo (1 Oct) experienced a tyre issue upon landing at Milan Bergamo Airport.
“Passengers disembarked normally, and the aircraft was inspected by engineers, who are currently servicing the aircraft so that it can return to service.”
Airport authorities said in a separate note: “SACBO [the company that manages the airport] advises that due to an aircraft grounded on the runway due to technical problems, operations are suspended.
“Departing flights are delayed and arriving flights may be diverted or cancelled until reopened.”
It comes after a Ryanair flight to Ibiza had to be diverted after violence broke out when a drunken Brit downed neat vodka then assaulted cabin crew and other passengers.
The plane carrying holidaymakers from Manchester landed in Toulouse, where police hauled the sozzled traveller and his ex-girlfriend off the plane.
Video of the attack showed the boozed-up travellers shouting and swearing at French cops, before assaulting a fellow holidaymaker as he was being escorted off the flight.
Passengers say trouble broke out after the man booked himself onto the plane after learning his ex-girlfriend and her brother were going to be on the same flight.
