Mariners Game #162: 9/29/24, OAK at SEA
The end of a season, the end of an era
The Mariners walked it off last night, tying them for the most walk-off wins with the Mets and the Giants with 11. They close up their season today with Logan Gilbert on the mound looking to become the first Mariners pitcher ever to lead all of MLB in innings pitched (two Mariners have led the AL in IP before: Freddy García in 2001 and Félix Hernández in 2010).

Milestone watch:
In addition to Gilbert’s attempt to log the most innings in MLB this year for the first time ever for a Mariners pitcher, Victor Robles has a chance to become just the fifth player since 1920 to record a season of 30+ stolen bases for a team while being caught 0 or 1 times, provided he successfully steals without getting caught. The last player to do it was Trea Turner in 2023, who became the first player in almost 20 years to hit that milestone; the first in the Live Ball Era was Brady Anderson for Baltimore in 1994.

Today in Mariners history:
- 1988 - Mark Langston pitched a club-record 34.1 consecutive scoreless innings beginning Sept. 14 and ending on this day when Texas scored one run off him. In recognition, he earned Pitcher of the Month (AL) honors for September.
- 1995 - The Mariners pushed their magic number to one as they posted their 43rd come-from-behind win of the year, 5-4 at Texas. The Mariners go ahead in the seventh inning thanks to back-to-back sacrifice flies from the two Martinezes, one of which is now overseeing an offense that’s surged to best in the league in sac flies. Norm Charlton picks up his 14th save.
- 2018 – Edwin Díaz recorded his 300th career strikeout in the ninth inning vs. Texas. He reached the milestone in 190.2 innings pitched, the fourth-fastest to that mark by innings pitched in Major League history, trailing only Craig Kimbrel (171.2), Aroldis Chapman (187.2) and Dellin Betances (190.1).
- 2022: J.P. Crawford kept the Mariners’ playoff hopes alive with a walkoff, two-run single to deliver a 10-9 win over the Texas Rangers in 11 innings.
