'Always something wrong': Franklin residents boil over ongoing water issues
ST. MARY PARISH, La. (KLFY) -- Franklin residents are growing frustrated over the city's water treatment issues as a boil advisory has been in effect for weeks.
For years, Franklin residents have expressed their concerns over the quality of water provided to them. The recent boil advisory is a familiar experience, residents expressed.
"There's always something wrong with the water," said an anonymous Franklin resident.
"This isn't anything new for us. This is just every day. I think everyone is just kind of tired and, you know, fed up with what's been happening," the anonymous resident said.
Ian Ruskoski, another Franklin resident, questioned what people are supposed to do without water.
"What are you going to do if you don't have water? You know, what is the source of life without water? You can't really have a community," Ruskoski said.
"We're reaching just a critical moment in Franklin's history where that's not to scare people. That's just reality. That is just the state of what we are dealing with right now," Ruskoski continued.
According to a recent news release from the city, the Franklin Water System violated the Surface Water Treatment Rule (SWTR).
The city said it is required to monitor drinking water for turbidity, how cloudy or hazy a liquid is, every 15 minutes and report those results to the Louisiana Department of Health. This is to ensure that water is being effectively filtered.
As of this report, the tests taken have not indicated bacteria in the water and the city is waiting for the okay from the Department of Health to lift the advisory.
