Lafayette police prepare for National Night Out event
LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) -- National Night Out is tomorrow and the Lafayette Police Department is getting ready for an evening of building community relationships and raising awareness on drug and crime prevention.
National Night Out 2024 will be held from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 1. at MLK Center, located at 309 Cora Street. The event is hosted by the Lafayette Police Department and the Colonel James Lewis Knights Templar.
The evening will include activities such as demonstrations, resources, food, music, and other festivities.
Rosalind Hayes, the event coordinator, said it's all about taking crime out of neighborhoods.
"That's what it's about; taking back our streets, taking back our neighborhoods, giving a going away party to crime [and] just saying we are no longer accepting this," Hayes said.
Sgt. Robin Green, of the Lafayette Police Department, said the goal is to have people come out, interact with each other and encourage other neighborhoods to put on their own National Night Out block party.
