ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Happy Monday! Meteorologist Matt Mackie says to watch out for that early morning fog but that we'll have a partly cloudy afternoon with temperatures in the 70s.
Albany held a tribute for Dr. Alice Green on Sunday. Also, National Grid sent crews from upstate New York to West Virginia on Saturday to help with the aftermath of Helene. These stories, and more, are in your five things to know this Monday.
1. Remembering Alice Green: Albany holds tribute to Dr. Green
It’s been just over one month since one of Albany’s strongest voices for racial and social justice passed away, Dr. Alice Green. While she may no longer be with us, community members in Albany are making sure her legacy is never forgotten.
2. National Grid sends crews following Hurricane Helene
National Grid crews are headed south to assist with power restoration from Hurricane Helene’s storm damage. Over 100 National Grid operation specialists arrived in West Virginia on Saturday night to help turn on the power for thousands of residents.
3. Four firefighters injured in Schenectady blaze
A fire on Turner Avenue in Schenectady on Saturday injured four firefighters of the Schenectady Fire Department. Chief Dan Mareno told NEWS10 that the four firefighters sustained non-life-threatening injuries when putting out the flames.
4. American Heart Association holds day of CPR training
Community Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Day occurred on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the MVP Arena. 10 trainers offered half-hour instruction to over 300 people who signed up to learn the American Heart Association’s hands-only CPR.
5. Rensselaer Common Council votes to override the mayors veto
The Rensselaer Common Council voted to override Mayor Mike Stammel’s veto of the common council’s decision to drastically reduce city employee Jason Scofield’s pay.
