Bo Nix -- yes, Bo Nix -- is the new Heisman Trophy favorite
It’s been a fun season in college football so far, and nowhere has that been more reflected than in the Heisman odds. USC quarterback Caleb Williams, the 2022 Heisman Trophy winner, opened as the prohibitive favorite at sportsbooks, but the odds have bounced around since then. With USC having lost four of its last five games, Williams’ odds have plummeted to 200-1 at some sportsbooks; at others, he’s off the board completely.
Washington QB Michael Penix Jr. and Michigan QB J.J. McCarthy have also taken turns at the top of the odds board during the season, but this week a different quarterback has stepped in as the favorite: Oregon’s Bo Nix.
Nix is the consensus favorite at around +110 odds at sportsbooks, although he’s the odds-on favorite at -150 odds at Circa Sportsbook and several others. Nix has been phenomenal this year in his 10th fifth season as a starting college football quarterback. While leading the Ducks to a 9-1 record, he has 3,135 yards passing and 29 TDs, to go along with just two interceptions. And his 87.3 QBR is third in the country.
Nix opened the season with 16-1 odds at BetMGM sportsbooks. On Monday, 4.8 percent of tickets (ninth most) and 7.3 percent of the total dollars wagered (fourth) were on Nix at BetMGM. Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders (14.3 percent) and WR/CB Travis Hunter (11.5 percent) were the two players with the most wagers.
Can Nix hold on and win the award? The final two regular-season games against Arizona State and Oregon State will be important, but his performance in a potential Pac-12 title game against Washington will probably decide it.
